1SSUE INTERNATIONAL, hosted in Wales and Japan, brings together a diverse and unique collection of artworks produced for 1SSUE, an artist book. Initiated by Richard Cox, the hand-made publication started as a ‘one off’ in 2002 and has continued to the present day, edited on rotation by Richard and artists Hilary Wagstaff, Heather Parnell, and Phil Mead.
Experimental and playful, contributions often test the limits of what might constitute a ‘page’. This show provides an opportunity to see pages from the latest edition: 1SSUE 41 and also an archive of 1SSUE books and pages created by the 91 artists who have participated since 2002.
The international reach of 1SSUE 41, was sparked in Japan in 2018 where many of the contributors met for the first time. Twenty five emerging and established artists from Australia, England, France, Wales, Hong Kong, Japan, Scotland and the USA have taken part, utilising film, sound, textiles and objects, painting, print, photography and drawing.
A special Skype event was held on May 16th 2019 linking between both galleries
